*WHAT’S INCLUDED:

Uniquely wonderful accommodation at the Mabel Dodge Luhan house, delicious breakfasts & lunches, 3 in-house out-of-this-world dinners, 24 hour use of art studio, daily painting and drawing sessions both guided and unguided in the studio and/or on-site plein air, supportive art critiques, admission to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, yoga studio use, and supplementary art materials.

WHAT YOU’LL PROVIDE:

You’ll bring your watercolor and/or preferred-medium art supplies. (A stool and portable landscape easel are optional but recommended). We’ll be on our own for two dinners in Taos and on our Abiquiu Field trip, we buy our own lunch and dinner. Additional admission costs are extra should you choose to visit the O’Keeffe studio, local museums in Taos, and/or Taos Pueblo. We will be carpooling to Abiquiu and Taos landscape sites.
*Note: if you’re using watercolor, a suggested list materials list will be provided.

We stay at Mabel Dodge Luhan House, a gathering place where artists and writers have been gathering and creating for nearly a century, and where we dine together on out-of-this-world delicious food.

ARTISTIC DISCOVERY

This art retreat welcomes all artists of all experience levels and media. I teach mostly in watercolor and drawing, but the concepts apply to all 2D perceptual art-making. Expect insight building exercises, visual warm-ups, art prompts and writing reflections that support our work out in the landscape.

We’ll work in the spacious Mabel Dodge Luhan studio and on-location in the high-desert landscape that Georgia O’Keeffe once called “the Faraway Nearby” — a place of vast skies and vivid details: red adobe walls, turquoise trucks, and the shifting dance of light and shadow.

The only requirement is a willingness to jump in with curiosity— to explore thresholds and edges both within the work and within yourself.
