Looking for Betty
Betty, as it turns out, is a complex construct; aspects of her are around the house, by the side of the road,in a mechanic's garage, and in the debris in my studio. I've spotted her on highway billboards and in dusty military texts that hadn't been checked out in decades. Betty is in vntage magazines, on newsstands and on war propaganda posters, and she is all over the Internet. Her image is emblazoned on retired B24 bombers and surreptitiously worked into 21st century NASA spacecraft diagrams. She works hourly in factories that continue to fabricate landmines. She has many hairstyles and is all races. She lives within every female body. Betty is a victim of war and social marginalization.
